EMDR THERAPY
What Is EMDR?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a research-backed therapy designed to help the brain process and heal from trauma. When we experience distressing or traumatic events, the emotions, images, and beliefs surrounding them can get “stuck,” making us feel like we’re reliving the past whenever we’re triggered.
EMDR helps reprocess these memories by using bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements, tapping, or sound). This process allows the brain to move the memory from a “stuck” state into a place where it can be integrated, understood, and no longer triggering. The memory itself doesn’t disappear, but it loses its emotional charge—so instead of feeling like you’re re-experiencing it, it becomes just another part of your past.
Understanding Trauma: Big “T” vs. Little “t”
Trauma isn’t always what we expect. It can be caused by a single overwhelming event, or it can build up over time.
Big "T" Trauma – Life-threatening or catastrophic events (e.g., war, sexual assault, natural disasters) that often lead to PTSD.
Little "t" Trauma – Distressing events that aren’t life-threatening but still have a deep emotional impact, especially when they accumulate (e.g., bullying, loss of a loved one, emotional neglect, financial struggles).
While one small trauma might not seem overwhelming on its own, repeated experiences—especially without support—can contribute to anxiety, depression, and feelings of being stuck.
How EMDR Can Help
Whether you’ve experienced Big "T" or Little "t" traumas, EMDR helps the brain heal naturally, just like the body heals from physical wounds. It can be especially effective for:
-PTSD & Trauma Recovery – Helping you move past distressing memories and triggers.
-Anxiety & Depression – Reducing overwhelming emotions and improving emotional balance.
-Negative Self-Beliefs – Replacing old, limiting beliefs with more empowering ones.
-Feeling Stuck – Unlocking personal growth and emotional freedom.
If you’ve been struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression, or feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve you, EMDR could be a powerful tool to help you move forward.
